All together the raffle raised three times the average of recent years

2014’s Christmas Raffle was drawn, in Out Patients in the Hospital of St Cross on Friday 19th December, and exceeded all hopes and expectations by raising a staggering £2,727, which is approximately 3 times the average amount achieved in recent years.

Doris Froggatt, who organised the raffle and co-ordinates the charity’s various collections, said “I am chuffed to bits. The support we have had this year has been overwhelming. I am sure that lots of things have contributed to this success. The great prizes donated by Jamesway Travel, M&M Jewellers and Sainsbury’s Local in Clifton Road which were highlighted on the tickets must have boosted sales as did the fact that many of our supporters, including the major prize donors, the Mayor and Abbey News, sold lots of tickets on our behalf. I would like to say a great big thank you to everyone who helped and especially the Coventry Building Society who printed the tickets.”

On Saturday, Rugby Male Voice Choir held their annual Charity Christmas Concert in aid of the Friends of St Cross as we are the Mayor’s Charity. Over 100 people were entertained to a variety of Christmas Carols and choral pieces. The Choir will be holding another concert in aid of the Charity in April.

Heather Green, Chairperson of the Friends, said “Our Diamond Jubilee Appeal has received a tremendous response from the people of Rugby and we look forward to this continuing throughout 2015 which is our actual Jubilee year. We have lots of plans for special events which are taking shape and will be published on our website when the details are confirmed. In the meanwhile, we would like to thank everyone for their support to date and look forward to hearing about any plans that members of the public, clubs, societies and businesses have for helping us to break through our initial target of raising at least £60,000 for the Appeal.”
