Patients in the Ash Dialysis Unit at St Cross are now enjoying Bingo sessions thanks to one of the recent donations from the Friends of St Cross.
Lisa Moulsher, Ward Clerk at the Unit, explained: “some 80 patients undergo up to four hours of treatment, three times a week, and have very little social activity during these sessions other than the companionship of their fellow patients or through access to social media provided by the hospital WiFi. Thanks to the equipment donated by the Friends, we have already been able to run four bingo sessions, which have really brightened up the atmosphere. The first session during Wimbledon was called Wimbingledon! We have another session planned for Halloween!”
Willy Goldschmidt, Chairman of the Friends of St Cross, said “we can see that this makes a real difference to the patient experience in the unit and how grateful the patients are that Lisa and Davina came up with the idea and have given up their own time to run the sessions. We are hoping that some Friends Volunteers could help by running more frequent sessions in future. It would be fantastic if we could attract some new volunteers for this activity. Who knows we might even get Santa to come along for a session?!! Some donations of small prizes for the sessions would also be much appreciated.”
