A new support donated to the surgical team at St Cross will help the service undertake even more procedures and improves the patient experience!

Larissa Belgrove, Operating Department Practitioner at the Hospital of St Cross, explained: “The Oxford Pillow donated by the Friends allows correct support of patients who may have difficulty breathing when they are lying flat. These patients would previously have been regarded as higher risk than the majority of patients we see at St Cross. Without this special pillow they may have been referred to University Hospital.”

Alistair Nutting, Associate Group Manager for Trauma and Orthopaedics and the Hospital of St Cross, added “The theatres at St Cross are only used for planned surgery, so operations don’t have to be cancelled so often for urgent or emergency procedures.  We are therefore keen to use equipment such as this, donated by the Friends, to be able to make surgery at St Cross an option for many more patients.”

Willy Goldschmidt, Chairman of the Friends of St Cross, said “One of the aims of the Friends is to enable more patients to be treated at St Cross and so we were delighted to be able to support this initiative.”
