Research at the Hospital of St.Cross has benefited through the kind donation of a -20 degree freezer.

The freezer is used for the storage of biological samples obtained for research purposes, currently from clinical trials conducted in the Macular Unit, looking at improving health outcomes for patients with Aged Related Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy. The freezer replaces an earlier failing model that was becoming unreliable.

The new freezer has relieved research nurses Linzi Randle and Jeanette Allison of time consuming defrosting and troubleshooting activities and provides an appropriate storage of samples to meet with the requirements of the Human Tissue Act and trial protocols.

With this in mind we express our gratitude The Friends of St.Cross for their generosity in donating this freezer.
