The Friends of St Cross have received another fantastic donation from Coventry Building Society, thanks to the support and generosity of its members.

This is the thirteenth donation that the Society has made to the charity and is based on 1% of the average savings balances held in their Supporters accounts which support the Friends of St Cross over a 12 month period. The cheque this year was for a massive £24,670, taking the grand total to date to an amazing £266,546!

Willy Goldschmidt, Chairman of the Friends of St Cross, said “We are most grateful for the support we have received from Coventry Building Society over the years. This year’s donation is one of the highest we have ever received. We’d like to thank the Society – particularly staff from the Rugby branch – and its members for their tremendous support.”

“This donation will help buy additional equipment that will improve the care provided to patients. In 2019, we spent approximately £120,000 on equipment and projects some of which helped to bring two new services to the hospital or improved the patient experience. Examples included expanding the Hysteroscopy service which is now a one stop shop for investigation and treatment, new specialist equipment for carpal tunnel surgery and more comfortable chairs for the Urgent Treatment Centre. Of course, we could not do this without the tremendous support we receive from the community in and around Rugby.”

After the cheque presentation, Matt Mannings, Head of the Society’s Branch Network, visited various wards and departments which the Friends have supported and said “It’s very clear to see just how valuable the support of the Friends is to the St Cross hospital. We’re delighted that, with the help of our members, we can support the vital work that the Friends do in the local community”.
