The Friends are seeking to recruit more volunteers to Befriend patients, be Mealtime Companions or supplement the rotas for many of our other services.

Over the Festive Season a group of volunteers from the community joined with regular Friends Volunteers to bring some extra cheer to patients who were not well enough to be discharged home.

We have re-launched our Mealtime Companion service for volunteers who would like to provide patients with assistance with eating their food or just need a little bit of encouragement! Not all patients have relatives or friends that are available to give this support and so a team of volunteers help on several of the wards at St Cross.

Doug Jones Chair of the Friends said "The support provided by volunteers at The Hospital of St Cross is widely appreciated by patients and staff alike. The demand for voluntary support is high as we continue to be approached with new requests to lend support to staff and improve the patient experience within the Hospital. Our services have expanded greatly over the last 2 years.  So, if you think you'd be able to help us to help St Cross with the gift of time in a voluntary role we look forward to hearing from you".
